Per data provided by Israel, at least 98 detainees from Palestine have died while in custody since October 2023. A human rights group operating from Israel has stated that the actual number is probably substantially greater, as a result of many of missing detainees originating in Gaza.

Notable Incidents

Several casualties in detention have been publicly known, for instance a 50-year-old healthcare leader who perished in detention after four months in confinement.

An inmate held with the deceased reported that he was brought to the exercise area by prison staff just prior to his passing, obviously hurt and naked from the hips downward. His corpse has not been repatriated to Gaza.

Further inmates who died in Israeli custody stay unnamed. The prison service and military gave analysts with the total of fatalities in confinement, and limited other details for example the facility where they lost their lives, but without the inmates’ personal details.
