Roughly fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.

Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.

Law enforcement report they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish substance.

The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Police then found multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement say preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they added.

Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for information.

A high-ranking official stated the attack left him stunned and needed to be resolved promptly.

"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right attack in 2020," he stated on social media, recalling the murder of nine people by a shooter aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
