Paris Saint-Germain Edges Marseille in a Shootout to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match between the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck twice late to take a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of events, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty victory.

Now 14-time winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the past 13 years.
