The star has given the full amount of his £25,000 Mercury Prize cash to the trust for venues, which operates to protect the Britain's grassroots live music spots.

He was given the cheque on 16 October as his third album People Watching was named the outstanding release of the last 12 months.

The musician has decided to donate the funds to the trust, in appreciation of the crucial part small stages fulfilled in his beginning days.

"As an artist couldn't be pursuing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the shows I performed around the region, and further afield, when I was just getting going," stated Fender. "These locations are renowned, but they are facing challenges."

From early 2023 onward, at least 150 of these venues have permanently closed – roughly 16% of the entire UK sector.

Over the past year, well-known musicians including Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all supported the MVT in its efforts to help venues survive, by including a modest fee to their ticket prices, which supports smaller concert halls.

Fender also joined in, generating over £100k on his recent tour to help thirty-eight local spots across England, Scotland, and Wales.

These funds helped locations that were facing possible closure due to issues stemming from flooding, blazes and personal losses, as well as licensing issues, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Some locations obtained financial assistance in upgrading infrastructure and gear that positively impacted musicians and concertgoers.

"The concept that revenue from shows in major spaces helps the local stages, where it begins for musicians like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has commented.

He is not the first artist to donate his honor funds to good deeds.

In Pulp won the award in the year 1996 for their release their work, vocalist Jarvis Cocker announced that the act would contribute their cash to the charity War Child.

During 2002, musician she divided her bounty among several organizations, like the children's charity and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I donated a grand to Highgate Newtown, to their gymnastics program, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked better apparatus," Ms Dynamite explained to the media.

Previously, they gave their winnings to the local youth club that supported their group, alongside other independent music bodies.

And 1994 winners the group gave their prize to a charity for MS after a acquaintance was diagnosed the illness.

"Receiving the award was ample," stated artist Small. "The money was the cherry on top but we could do without the extra, because we had the main prize. So our victory touched somebody else's life."

Recently, the Music Venues Trust revealed it had protected a couple of small stages in that region, by bringing them into community ownership.

One venue in Southampton and the other in Bristol were purchased under the public acquisition program, which is backed by the arts council and enthusiasts who buy "ownership units" in the buildings.
